I logged in this morning to an email from google notifying me of a few of our websites which have been compromised by malware links.
No clanbaker.com is not one of them.
The sites affected have been redirected to clanbaker.com until we can clean out the links. I don’t think anyone actually visits them, but better to be safe than sorry :D
In other news, Dan is working from home as a contractor through odesk.com and is working on his website at daniel.clanbaker.com. The kids are all healthy, happy and growing. I’m slowly taking midwifery classes and buying books as I can. I’m hoping to apprentice later this year.
I know we don’t update this website very often any more. Most of our day-to-day stuff gets posted over on facebook. If you are on facebook, but haven’t friended us yet, look us up!
Merry Christmas from Florida!
It’s currently a balmy 70*, with clear blue skies. The sound of music surrounds, some of it good, some of it not so good. This year was a musical Christmas, and instruments were the theme of the day topping the list of big gifts.
For Christmas this year all of the kids got new shoes, and some new clothes. They also got some school stuff, and art stuff. Individually; Gwen got a xylophone, Maya and Ari got a drum kit (bongos, maracas, tambourine), Jaydn got a guitar, Shirley got a 24k gold necklace with a garnet and pink topaz butterfly, and Rowan scored a professional grade keyboard (courtesy of Dan’s work).
As a family we got a monster box of Sees Chocolates from Great Aunt Debbie, and Great Aunt Suzie’s gift is breakfast this morning, with blueberry pancakes and real maple syrup! We also got a box of home-made chocolate christmas tree lollipops from Brian, our toastie coastie in NJ, and friend from EvE online.
Video and pictures to follow.
We sincerely hope everyone has a wonderful christmas!
Most of the time the jokes you get in email make you roll your eyes, or maybe chuckle a bit. Some really put a smile on your face, and some are so ingenious that they are worth sharing. This is one of those jokes.
Have you ever wondered how a woman’s brain works? Well….it’s finally explained here in one, easy-to-understand illustration:

Every one of those little blue balls is a thought about something that needs to be done, a decision or a problem that needs to be solved.
A man has only 2 balls and they take up all his thoughts.
I hope this brought a smile to your face today!
Well as I was worrying about finding an affordable home school curriculum, one fell in my lap! Ask, and you shall receive. I asked on Freecycle (wonderful resource by the way) for a math curriculum, and got a reply from a private school that was cleaning out old books.
We got everything computers, math, history, science, language arts, and more! Not just for the kid’s current grades, but all the way through 6th grade! Boxes upon boxes of books, it filled the entire back of the van. I’m still somewhat in shock. When Toni replied to my request, I thought maybe a few books, but this has far exceeded that. Truly a great gift – Thank you, Toni.
Now, not everything in life is free, and despite the title, these weren’t quite free either – but they might as well be. We bartered Dan’s geekiness in exchange, so he’ll be spending a few afternoons at the school helping Toni run new network cables.
So now we’re set! All we need now is the certificate from the district saying that we can home school and we’re good to go. Dan will be going through the computers (we got one for each kid, and then some!), and the better ones we’ll bring in here for them to do school work on. I am getting very excited, and so are the kids.
I updated wordpress last night. At the time it didn’t look like anything broke, but I came by to double check, and sure enough – database errors. I’ve let Dan know about them, and he’ll fix them when he gets a chance. He’s been pretty busy lately, and that’s a good thing!
In other news.. Thursday (the day of my last post) was report card day. Kind of interesting given the topic of that post. Nothing has really changed; we’re still considering home schooling them, but I had to come on here and brag
Jaydn’s grades are stable – they didn’t go up, they didn’t go down. He got high remarks for his behavior and participation.
Shirley got a citizenship award! Her grades have fluctuated a little, up in some areas, down in others. Overall I’m proud of her progress and the report her speech teacher gave.
and
Rowan made honor roll!. She got all S’s (Satisfactory) and E’s (Excellent) which is wonderful. She got the special treat of being allowed to sleep in daddy’s office on a school night, so she was thrilled.
And as icing on the cake, my beautiful weather has continued. I’m enjoying a lovely, rolling thunderstorm as I type. The house is all opened up, and occasionally there’s a sweet, jasmine scented breeze. Almost something straight out of a story book.
